Film scholars working in tandem with leading metaphysicians have stumbled across a disturbing discovery: beyond the near infinity of meanings to be mined from The Master's movies, the titles themselves would seem to comprise a communique from beyond the grave. Proceeding from Hitchcock's well-known love for the pun, they concocted the pronouncements below. Those with an asterisk have been confirmed as factual, within The Master's cinematic universe:
* "Strangers On A Train's" "Family Plot" creates "Murder"
"The Trouble With" "The Bird's" "Vertigo" non-plusses "The Mountain Eagle"
"Foreign Correspondent's" "Easy Virtue" results in "Blackmail"
* "Spellbound", "Notorious", "Marnie", "The Lady, Vanishes", because of "Suspicion" and a "Shadow Of A Doubt"
* "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" Jimmy Stewart with an alternative to writhing "Under Capracorn"
"Rebecca", "Young And Innocent" "Dials M For" "The Manxman" and gets "Champagne"
"To Catch A Thief", "The Man Who Knew Too Much" "Waltzes From Vienna"
The full scope of HItchcock's zeitgeist is illustrated by birthday cake, Doris Day, Jimmy Stewart and Alfred attempting to eat a slice off her shoe. illo: A. Hitchcock
"The 39 Steps", drawing "North By Northwest", leads to "The 'Topaz' Ring"
"Paradine, 'Juno And The Paycock', Case" the lodgings of "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" through the "Torn Curtain" of their "Rear Window"
A "Saboteur" at the "Jamaica Inn" is able to "Sabotage" the lighthouse and pirates a "Lifeboat"
* Jack The Ripper's "Frenzy" drives "The Lodger" "Downhill"
* "Secret Agent" does "Rope" "The Wrong Man"
"The Pleasure Garden" and "The Skin Game" both result in "Stage Fright"
* "Number 13" precedes "Number Seventeen"
"Rich And Strange", "Lord Camber's Ladies" "Murder" "The Farmer's Wife"
* "I Confess" I'm a "Psycho". Posted on Jun 20, 2012 - 01:29 AM
