Hitting California Road
Have you ever thought about hitting the road for a few days to dance on a beach under the full moon, say?
Did you know that California has three deserts—which bloom in April, and this year's should be great—four mountain ranges, 300 hot springs, a MILLION miles of back roads and numerous inspirational literary as well as environmental locations?
Did you know that cineSOURCE does tours?
Indeed, our sixth annual 5Day Idea Tour is leaving West Oakland on Friday, April 12th, first stop being Big Sur, replete with fine dining, a literary performance and Esalen's famous hot tubs.
All you need is a sleeping bag and pad, a jacket and sun hat, and eating utensils, and to show up at 6pm, Friday, April 12th, 2200 Adeline Street.
Please RSVP: 510 220.2126 or .
Our newly rented van will whisk you to Carmel for dinner and then Big Sur, to sleep at the Henry Miller Library and do a beach day. The library is also where tour facilitator, Doniphan Blair, will perform "Blair Does Miller", an introduction to the still-controversial author with a focus on his misogyny, anti-Semitism and psychedelic romanticism (see article),
Later that night, we'll do a beach fire and drop by the world-famous Esalen Institute, to bath in its tubs thirty feet off the ocean. After camping in mountains overlooking the Pacific, we do a back road crossing of California, from Route 1 to Route 395.
From then on, it's one long line of hot springs, mountains and deserts, which should have great flowers this year (see Death Valley Flower Report. Finally, we will find ourselves, literally as well as metaphorically, at a paradise oasis in Death Valley, where the supreme silence can quiet even the most obstreperous inner dialogue.
Along the way, we will discuss film, search for good Mexican food, do yoga, indulge gourmet snacks and stop at fantastic vistas.
Indeed, our second rule is: Whenever anyone wants to stop, we will stop and look and smell.
The next days include on more hot spring, the Manzanar Internment Camp Museum, viewing the HIGHEST point in the continental US (Mt. Whitney) and, perhaps, skiing .
The costs will be shared evenly for cineSOURCE "family" and plus 33% for "new friends." It works out to about $200-50, for van rental, gas, food and one night lodging, or $275-350, for new friends, although we work out the specifics en route.
For more info, please call 510 220.2126, or email . California remains the mother of all road trips—come out and play—literally in our back yard.
