Most people tend to plan parties and gatherings well in advance, giving themselves time to arrange everything - from food and refreshments, to music and entertainment. But always planning your parties with a “cushion” of time leaves little room for spontaneity; let’s face it: everyone has the urge to drop everything and throw a last-minute party from time to time. But ‘last-minute’ doesn’t have to equate to disarray.

In fact, some of the most successful and memorable parties are spontaneously planned, with everything from activities to music flowing seamlessly - as if they were planned well in advance.

Of course, even last minute parties require a few advance considerations. For instance, having people over probably means that you’ll want to have drinks and snacks to offer. But planning your party spontaneously doesn’t always give you enough time to make those arrangements. Instead of taking it upon yourself to provide all the food and refreshments, announce – at the time of invitation – that the party is “pot-luck” style with regard to food and snacks, as well as ‘BYOB’ – ‘bring your own beer’. That in itself should take away most of the stress that can result from planning a last minute party.

Next, you’ll want to think about music. After all, it’s not a party unless you have some beats in the background. If you don’t already have a music mix – or if you simply want to compile a fresh one – a good option is to turn to an MP3music download. You can often find downloads for free, and your selection of music is virtually endless - so you can build various playlists in no time at all.

And finally, with regard to setting a party atmosphere in your home, consider keeping a basket or drawer with some basic decorations such as balloons, coloured paper, ribbons and tape. Or, for a more elegant look, opt to decorate your place with fresh flowers and candles. You can even pick a theme and tell all your guests to show up in fancy dress! Setting the mood for your party needn’t be time consuming at all – and it’s sure to make a big different to the overall feel of your event.

So don’t hesitate to throw a last-minute party. Spontaneous gatherings are fun and easy to arrange, and they can often turn out to be the most enjoyable parties.
