Seduced and Abandoned: Ten Days in May
“Seduced and Abandoned” begins with the following text: “I look back at my life and it’s 95% running around trying to raise money to make movies, and 5% actually making them. It’s no way to live.” Orson Wells
To make that point the currently ubiquitous Alec Baldwin with buddy James Toback spent 10 days in May of 2012, at the Cannes film festival and film market attempting to secure investments in a proposed film about a “political-erotic Middle Eastern adventure inspired by Bernardo Bertolucci’s ‘Last Tango in Paris’”, their title for which was “Last Tango in Takrit”. I’ll spend the rest of my life wondering how serious they were about THAT film project.
Be that as it may, their documentary film crew follows our intrepid movie industry players as they speak with a variety of movie business people, a smattering of actors, and a few legendary directors such as Bertolucci, Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Polanski, Martin Scorsese, and, of course, Taki Theodoracopulos.
On the surface this HBO documentary is obviously a movie about movie people for movie people. But star-crossed movie fans everywhere may enjoy this peephole view of icons reflecting on themselves and their business along with players pleading for pesoses. D. Schwartz October 27, 2013
