Give Up Tomorrow: An Epic Search for Justice
“Give Up Tomorrow” is the documentary equivalent of a page-turner, and therefore, rather than tell the story, all I want to do here is describe the set up, and praise the filmmakers.
On the island of Cebu, in the Philippines, two young sisters leave work – going home in the midst of a tropical storm. They never arrive. Hundreds of miles away, on a different island, in the city of Manila, 19 year old Paco Larrañaga is at a party with dozens of witnesses.
Paco is accused of the girls’ abduction, rape, and murder. Using interviews and archival video recordings, “Give Up Tomorrow” follows Paco’s and his family’s epic search for justice.
Director Michael Collins and producer Mary Syjuco have done a superlative job of telling Paco’s story. Although the subject matter is disturbing, the film’s story is utterly captivating and the production quality is stellar.
