DeLorean - Living the Dream: The Past Future of John Z. DeLorean
“C'est un phénomène sociologique.” François Truffaut as ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ character Claude Lacombe
Written and directed by Jordan Livingston, "DeLorean – Living the Dream” is about John DeLorean and his tragically failed self-named stainless steel sports car, the DeLorean. Livingston covers DeLorean’s personal and professional stories—and follows that with the jaw-dropping story, sparked by the car’s appearance in the ‘Back to the Future’ movies, of the world’s obsession with the DeLorean.
There are now conventions, shows, groups, festivals, museums, clubs, machine-tooled parts, one-person manufacturers, and this documentary—all focused on the reborn gull-winged sports car.
Approximately 9,000 DeLoreans were manufactured between 1981 and 1983. Counting both originally manufactured and subsequently recreated cars, there is a consensus in the international DeLorean community that there are approximately 6,000 DeLoreans on our planet.
The film is narrated by actor Jeffrey Weissman who DeLorean fans around the world know as Marty McFly’s father in ‘Back to the Future Part 2.’
The heart and soul of “DeLorean – Living the Dream” are the many people Livingston interviewed from all walks of life and several nations for his film. Their enthusiasm is contagious.
Livingston has created a beautiful, engaging film about a maverick, his dream, his loss, and his unexpected legacy.
