Americans in Bed: Ten Couples in Their Own Beds
Watching HBO’s ‘Americans in Bed’ I couldn’t wait to write about it.
Ten demographically diverse couples are interviewed by veteran filmmaker and psychology student Phillippa Robinson, in their respective homes, in their respective beds.
The film is so engaging, and so effectively revealing of the daunting challenges long-term relationships face, it almost-instantly became another documentary I want everyone to see—for the film’s insights, endearments, and humor.
Robinson cuts back and forth between the ten couples, and chronologically arranges the topics covered. The viewer may put the pieces together and form ten stories—and speculate how each of the ten stories may unfold, or, possibly, fold.
For those interested in sex, there’s gingerly worded sex talk. For cynics and skeptics, there’s unhappiness and portents of disaster, and for those focused on love, that’s the primary ingredient.
