A Girl and a Gun: 17 Million Women, One Loaded Issue
Co-written, co-produced, directed by, and shot by Cathryne Czubek, “A Girl and Gun
>” explores the use of guns by Americans of the female gender. Czubek travels the nation, speaking with women who use guns, women who talk and write about women who use guns—and she weaves in a bit of history of women and guns in the United States.
The film is very well produced, fully engaging, and, of course, totally provocative.
We are forced to re-examine our beliefs and attitudes about guns throughout and, especially, after viewing. Czubek includes the requisite chapter—entitled “Recoil”—which includes the tragic side of this story. However, the joys and passions of gun ownership and use expressed by the film’s characters are contagious. So, be prepared for an attack of acute cognitive dissonance.
The film was released in 2013 by First Run Pictures,
