The Town of Memories by Citlali Andrade with assistance from Jennifer Robles-Diaz, Esmeralda Pena and Andrea Vivas
Hello reader. Let me tell you a story about five BFFs: Annie, Ana, Elizabeth, Yazmine, and Xochitl — but they didn’t like Annie because she was rich, spoiled and thought she was better than everyone else. The Town of Memories wasn’t always such a quiet town…
It was a sunny and happy day. Annie was with her BFFs. They were all talking and giggling about the Halloween dance, which was coming up. Annie was thinking of asking Isaac out, but what she didn’t know was that one of her “best friends” also liked Isaac.
“OMG! Are you really going to ask him out?” said Yazmine.
“I don’t know — I mean what happens if he doesn’t like me?!?” said Annie.
“Don’t worry. He totally likes you — don’t you see how he looks at you?” said Elizabeth. Ana sighed.
“What’s wrong Ana?” said Annie, noticing that Ana was blushing. “What? You like him?” Rustle, rustle.
“Do you like him or not?” Rustle, rustle.
“What was that noise?” said Elizabeth.
“Elizabeth — shut-up! You're always lying and making stuff up!” said Annie.
They never stood up for each other, especially because Annie herself was often the one who was mean to her friends. But how could they not be best friends with someone who knew ALL of their secrets?
Three days later...
“Does this dress make me look fat?” said Annie.
“No!” all of the girls replied at once.
“Oh, shutup! I know you guys are lying — especially you, Elizabeth.”
“No, really, you look really skinny,” said Elizabeth.
“But not freakishly skinny, right?”, said Annie.
“No, no, of course not!” said Yazmine.
“Ok, girls, this a night to remember — so go get dressed so we can do our hair and makeup,” said Annie.
An hour later….
The girls were laughing and getting ready to go to the Halloween dance. But what they didn’t know was that someone was following them.
The person never revealed himself. He always wore a mask and never took it off, but for the girls he would. He was obsessed with them. He stalked them and even filmed them going to sleep.
Then, one day — the day of the Halloween dance — he finally made a move and kidnapped Annie, or so people thought!
Just before that happened the girls were partying in their fancy dresses.
Annie: “OMG! This is awesome! The snacks are great and we look awesome!”
Xochitl: “I know, right? This is awesome! Do you want a drink, Annie?”
Annie: “Yeah sure. Put some ice in there, too. Thanks.”
What Annie didn’t know was what her friends had in mind, once they stepped away.
“Where’s the powder, Yazmine?” said Xochitl.
“It’s in my purse,” said Yazmine.
While Yazmine and Xochitl did their part of the plan, Elizabeth and Anna did their part, which was to distract Annie. Once they brought her juice and she drank all of it, they would bring her to Ana’s basement and torture her.
Annie: “Why are they taking so long, they should be back already.”
Elizabeth: “Just wait, they’ll be back soon.”
“Sorry, guys, that we took so long,” said Yazmine, when they returned. “There was a crowd and they were in our way.”
“It’s fine, as long as you got my drink,” said Annie. The girls looked at her with a
“Really???” face.
“I’m just kidding. You guys take everything so serious,” said Annie.
Gulp, gulp.
While Annie took a long, nice sip, all the girls looked at her, waiting to see if the powder would work. When Annie finished all the fruit punch, she realized the girls were staring at her in disbelief.
“What? Did I get some on my dress?” Annie said.
“It’s not that, you finished the whole glass!” said Yazmine.
“Well, I wasn’t lying when I said, ‘Yes’ to Xochitl, when she asked me if I was thirsty,” said Annie.
Right when Annie finished that sentence she started feeling dizzy. Then she fainted.
After the girls took Annie to Ana’s house, she started waking up. Annie wondered where she was but for some reason she couldn’t talk — she felt like her tongue was cut off!
“Hurry she’s waking up — put your masks on!” said Yazmine.
“Wh-where am I? Who are you,” said Annie. All she could see was four girls or boys.
“Welcome Annie,” they all said together. “You might be wondering who we are,” one of them said.
“If you want to know who we are,” said another, “you don’t really have to think hard. You know these girls, they don’t really talk to you from the heart.”
“You're rude to them and make them feel like cra —” the one with black hair said.
“Rebecca?” interrupted Annie.
“NO!” Slowly they all took of their masks.
“Hello, Annie,” said Yazmine.
As I told you before the Town of Memories wasn’t always the quiet town you would think. That night the police found Annie dead in a hole covered with notes saying that she would go to hell! The police detective blamed the clown, who was arrested.
Surprisingly, they never found out about the girls.
To this day, the people of the Town of Memories think that you shouldn’t trust a stranger, because it could be YOU in that grave, while, in fact, the murderers were Annie’s so-called BFFs.
