HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND A CREATIVE
New Year to all cineSOURCE readers, writers and associates— thanks for your support and subscriptions (to do so, go here).
We couldn't do it without you, our esteemed regular writers—notably our animation expert, Karl Cohen, the "Indie Wrangler" Joanne Butcher, our long-time doc reviewer, Don Schwartz and Jay Randy Gordon, who specializes in all things Marin—and everyone else who participated in cineSOURCE over the last, fascinating and educational decade. Indeed, our decennial anniversary issue is in April.
Our Holiday issue, however, coming this week, features excellent articles by all the above and publisher/editor Doniphan Blair (see article surveying his writing).
Our feature covers 'Quest'. Not the documentary about an African-American family in Philly also making the news, this "Quest" is the freshman film from Santiago Rizzo. A tough but transcendent story, it takes place in Berkeley and concerns an abused, young graffiti artist and an enlightened middle school teacher.
We also address the earth-shaking and ongoing sex abuse scandal — check the ish out (up around Dec 29th)!
Admittedly 2017 was a bit tough for cineSOURCE. The first week of January, the last of Bay Area media companies that supported cineSOURCE, starting when it was a 5,000-run paper monthly, cancelled their ads (to renew, go to here).
Some of old friends even joked, "Go out of business, already, just publish my article first," while not a single San Franciscan crossed the bridge to our Holiday Sale—boo hoo!

Nevertheless, cineSOURCE is booming!
• Readership is up to a 50,000/month average, a 25% jump from 2016
• The "Fall of Love" or "Gala Hippie" Issue and related seriograph print series garnered lots of interest (see "Summer of Love Shows, Movies & Festivals")
• The Holiday Sale was well attended by Oaklanders and travelers
• We have big plans for our tenth anniversary issue: redesign, new authors, foreign subjects and more.
Given the current threat of fake news, trolling, doxing and social media manipulation, and the culpability of our Silicon Valley neighbors, it is up to grassroots media outlets to:
• Report and research
• Reveal fresh perspectives
• Nurture, interpret and inspire
In this light, we thank you for your support, past or possibly future, ask for your suggestions (email us ) and wish you:
