MEDIA GULCH, THE SAN FRANCISCO
strip of land between North Beach and the water, is rocketing up after the recession and nowhere more so than at Beyond Pix Studios, on Battery Street, one of the largest, full-service production companies in the Bay Area.
With three locations, including two on Palou Avenue, in the southern San Francisco Bay Shore neighborhood, one of which houses one of the area’s largest sound stages, Beyond Pix provides corporate and broadcast clients with full production, creative services, post and event services, including interactive media.
Recently Beyond Pix shot four spots in four days, in multiple locations in the Lake Tahoe area, for Toyota and the San Francisco ad agency Hoffman/Lewis. Previously, for Hoffman/Lewis, Beyond Pix did the thirty-second spot “Don’t Do It”, which aired during last year's Super Bowl’s halftime show and utilized RC (remote control) technology.
They are also doing an ongoing web series, called "HTML 5: Inside the Brackets with Jonathan Stark" for Intel. Its 12 episodes per year focus on the odd implications of an increasingly mobile and mobile-device-loaded society. "The Stanford Roundtable" with Katie Couric," a five-camera, live-streamed program, which aired on PBS, was another very interesting production.

Recently, the studio announced the appointment as general manager of Karen Sutton, "One of the most talented executives in the Bay Area's motion arts industry," according to Beyond Pix Founder Ray Santiago, “Karen is a rock star in my book."
An enthusiastic leader with an indepth of knowledge of production, the Emmy-nominated Sutton is coming from 17 years as the head of Stanford Video, a division of Stanford University. There she was responsible for producing and directing documentaries, PBS series, interactive webcasts and live events for Stanford. She also designed their hybrid facility accommodating analog and digital capabilities.
“Beyond Pix has provided dedicated support to me as a vendor while I was at Stanford," said Ms. Sutton, who previously managed other Silicon Valley production facilities. "I am delighted to be joining a team of professionals I highly respect.”
